LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content.

Vijay Nijhawan: I travel a lot and meet different people in society. Having the inside knowledge of the Government Department functioning I have seen corruption, underdelivering and a bad situation in the country for the basics like education, health, roads, water, environment, etc. While working with bureaucrats and democrats I got inside knowledge and all this inspired me to write this book. For almost one year I was thinking and planning about the book, after that, I started writing the points then I made the different chapters in a proper timeline and have given the shape to the book.

LiFT: Why you chose this title?

Vijay Nijhawan: This title justifies the content of the book.

LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer and what’s your inspiration behind it?

Vijay Nijhawan: While closely working with the democrats and especially bureaucrats, I have observed and seen, the responsibility of running our democratic system lies mainly on the two pillars of its government – the legislature and the executive, or, as I refer to them, the democrats and the bureaucrats.
It is the legislature’s responsibility to lay down policies and programs, but bureaucrats are also involved in the process to help them through it. Who they end up helping is actually the crux of our problems. With more knowledge about governance, they are able to confuse politicians. They make certain to leave escape clauses in policies, which later facilitate corruption in their favor. Politicians, who understand these games, have unfortunately become seasoned players in them. And together, their nexus has brought this country to its present condition, which will soon become irreparable, if it’s not cured now.

LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?

Vijay Nijhawan: I am in the process of writing five more books, and all of these will be published in the next three years, I have been approached by three filmmakers for making a film-web series based on the story of my first novel and have asked me to assist them in writing the script and dialogue both, I will be busy doing all these in next ten years.

LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?

Vijay Nijhawan: Both, but the quality/content of a book is more necessary.

LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?

Vijay Nijhawan: The purpose of written communication is to capture your reader’s attention and get your point across clearly. Ultimately, when you communicate in writing, you are helping the reader understand your perspective on a topic.

LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?

Vijay Nijhawan: I have a consultancy company. I have completed detailed research on almost 150 different subjects of Government functioning and have stored a big data bank. All these are for my upcoming research-news portal.

LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?

Vijay Nijhawan: Go For a walk
Listen to different subjects on YouTube
Do Research
Go for a Long Drive

LiFT: What if your story will be adopted as a movie? Whom would you want to work as a director or actors in it?

Vijay Nijhawan: Anurag Basu as a Director and Vicky Kaushal as an actor and for the female lead a new girl for female lead Aditi Budhathoki.

LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?

Vijay Nijhawan: The content is always a very important part, while writing one should always think out of the box along with the vocabulary, make chapters, and write in a proper timeline.
