About Dr. Pradeep K
Pradeep K is a distinguished doctor, professor, academician, and researcher whose love for English poetry has been a lifelong companion alongside his academic pursuits. He completed his schooling in Kerala and his higher secondary education at the prestigious Breeks Memorial Anglo-Indian School in Ooty, where his passion for poetry and short stories first took root. Though A Drop Apart marks his debut in literary publishing, Pradeep is no stranger to the world of books, having authored ten academic works to his credit. His talent for verse was recognized early, earning him prizes for versification during his school and college years. With A Drop Apart, he embarks on a deeply moving literary journey — a psychological exploration into the life of a girl child — and it is his heartfelt hope that this work resonates with and satisfies every reader who turns its pages.
LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it, and its content.
Dr. Pradeep K: The Book was written from a personnel experience, which made me hurt. The content is a psychological fiction -This Novella was about a girl sitting alone in a patch of afternoon light, watching the world gather around others. Not unhappy, exactly. Just… separate. Just a drop apart.
Meera is not one woman. She is woven from a hundred quiet truths — about what happens to a child who learns too early that her needs are an inconvenience, that love is something that visits rather than stays, that silence is safer than speaking.
She is about the architecture that gets built inside us before we are old enough to choose it. The walls raised for survival that later become the walls of a life. The distance that once protected her, and then — slowly, without her realizing — became the very thing keeping everything real from reaching her.
She is also about the long, difficult work of seeing yourself clearly. Of recognizing the pattern your own hands have woven. Of choosing, even late, even imperfectly, to stay. Meera’s story is not a cautionary tale. It is not a diagnosis. It is an act of compassion — toward every person who learned to take up less space, ask for less, feel less, in order to move through a world that never quite made room for them.
You are not broken. You are shaped. And what has been shaped can, with time and honesty and the right kind of help, be reshaped. Read it slowly. Meera took a lifetime to understand herself. You are allowed to take your time too.
