LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it, and its content.
Preeti Mallapurkar: Love At Last Swipe is about a middle aged woman and her experiences while dating online. With a gentle nudge by her son and encouragement by her friends, she dives into the contemporary world of finding a partner in the process discovering herself again. I have been thinking of writing this during covid, but actually started writing this 3 years back. The journey has been as fun as the book while I explored dating apps to understand the way they work. The book is inspired by a dear friend who lost her husband with no family except a son living far away in a different country. It’s a work of fiction weaved with some real life experiences.
LiFT: Why did you choose this title?
Preeti Mallapurkar: Actually, the book had a different title till it was about to be printed. My publishers were sure they wanted the title changed which actually I was not okay with. But finally, after lots of thought process, while arguing with the editor & publisher, I just thought of this title and they quickly said yes. We all loved it as it’s relevant to the story.
LiFT: When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer, and what was your inspiration behind it?
Preeti Mallapurkar: I have been writing for many years but never thought of authoring one. This story was very close to my heart and I thought it needs to be heard & read. The inspiration was a dear friend who lost her husband and how we as friends pushed her to find a partner.
LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?
Preeti Mallapurkar: I see myself authoring many books and talking about the topics people normally don’t talk about.
LiFT: How important do you think marketing and the quality of a book are in promoting it and increasing its readership?
Preeti Mallapurkar: Marketing of a book is as important as it’s content. As a beautifully written book can go unnoticed if not marketed properly.
LiFT: What message do you want to convey to people through your writing?
Preeti Mallapurkar: I would tell that Love has no expiry date and you sometimes find it when you expect it the least.
LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?
Preeti Mallapurkar: I am an Actor and a screenplay writer.
LiFT: What activities do you resort to when you face writer’s block?
Preeti Mallapurkar: I talk to my family & friends also do my research.
LiFT: What if your story were to be adapted into a movie? Who would you want to work as the director or actors in it?
Preeti Mallapurkar: I am an actor and would like to play the protagonist as I understand her the most. In fact, I have registered this as a script so that a film can be made on this.
LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If so, could you tell us something about it?
Preeti Mallapurkar: Yes, I have been working for the past 9 months on my second book. It’s a controversial subject hence won’t talk much about it now.
LiFT: What are your suggestions for budding writers and poets to help them improve their writing skills?
Preeti Mallapurkar: Be yourself and express. The more you write the better you get.

Really enjoyed this interview. I particularly liked Preeti Mallapurkar’s perspective that “love has no expiry date” and the inspiration behind *Love At Last Swipe*. It’s refreshing to see conversations around companionship and self-discovery later in life.
