LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content?

Shiv A Kapoor: The first scene of the book is an actual experience that gave birth to the idea of writing a book, explaining the madness that revolved around an individual who is 27 and single unmarried.
Prem Says Yes To Shaadi is a hilarious yet realistic tale about two Indian families, wittingly touching upon the complex subject of the various myths and beliefs that the Indians hold, conveniently termed as the “Indian mentality” towards the institution of marriage. It sheds light on the social and fun customs as well as the harsh realities of the Indian traditions and their subtle veracities.

LiFT: Why you chose this title?

Shiv A Kapoor: The story has a Bollywoodish Big Fat Indian Wedding theme, and it is what everyone in the novel wants the protagonist to say. So, chose the title accordingly.

LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer/poet and what’s your inspiration behind it?

Shiv A Kapoor: After switching from CA to the field of content writing, I started exploring different spaces. I had to write a script for video content for one of our clients. It was the first time I had worked on the narrative thread, and it was exciting that I didn’t want to get out of the zone. At that time, I wrote and published my first short story.

LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?

Shiv A Kapoor: I just want to write what I enjoy. I love it at the pace it is sailing at the moment.

LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?

Shiv A Kapoor: Marketing is definitely important. No matter how good a book is, if people don’t know about it, they won’t read it.

LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?

Shiv A Kapoor: If you don’t enjoy what you are writing, don’t write it.

LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?

Shiv A Kapoor: By profession, I’m a Content Strategist.

LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?

Shiv A Kapoor: If I’m stuck somewhere, I start writing on another idea that I have. Writer’s block doesn’t stop me from writing, though.

LiFT: What if your story will be adopted as a movie? Whom would you want to work as a director or actors in it?

Shiv A Kapoor: Again, my novel has a Bollywoodish Big Fat Indian Wedding theme. It could be a typical Rom-Com that most of us enjoy. Also, I’m in talks with someone. So, can’t express my thoughts about it at the moment.

LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.

Shiv A Kapoor: I’ve completed two more novels, and one is half-baked. 2 out of 3 are of the contemporary drama genre.

LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?

Shiv A Kapoor: If you don’t write, you’ll never know if you can write.
