LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content.
Shalvi: The book Life In Cage is based on the sufferings and pain faced by Animals and Birds because of some of human greeds. There are many incidents mentioned in the book based on real stories.
While I was in class 7, at that time I read in a newspaper article about how the percentage of forests are decreasing day by day and its impact on lives of my wildlife creatures. At that time hunting of wild animals, especially tigers are also at its peak. Witnessing all those incidents, at that time only I decided to work towards it and for the same I thought of Pen as the most powerful weapon to be chosen for this WAR FOR CHANGE. Since then, I started connecting with different people and kept on collecting stories, waiting for the right opportunity to serve it in front of all.
LiFT: Why you chose this title?
Shalvi: The reason behind chosing this title is to make people realize that now its the high time to break the chains, i.e., to put an end to all the sufferings of all the creatures.
LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer and what’s your inspiration behind it?
Shalvi: To be honest I have inherited my writing skills from my ancestors but wasn’t aware about this skill. When I completed my 12th studies, because of some mishaps in my own life, I wrote my first book with all my thoughts that could encourage other teens like me to avoid committing any wrong steps in their life.
After publishing that book, I got many great feedback from my readers which again motivated me to write more and more. At that time I realized that my simple words actually inspires others a lot. Thus, by then only I decided to move further in writing field and at present I have written and published 3 books and still working on more.
LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?
Shalvi: At some place where when people only by thinking of my name could get encourage and step up the ladder of positivity, success and in the right path.
LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?
Shalvi: Marketing and quality both are equally important as without marketing readers won’t be able to know about what’s new in the market.
At the same time if the quality of a book is not upto the mark, then no matter how much effort has been put in its marketing, it would be of no use.
So both are equally realted with each other and important for the success of any book.
LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?
Shalvi: Just stay positive in your life no matter how hard your life put you in through. I know its easy to say but quite difficult when one goes into it. Still just trust my words because at the end, if your efforts are true then all those sufferings would definitely come to its end and don’t forget to be compassionate towards other humans and animals.
LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?
Shalvi: I am a working professional, working as an Instructional Designer in US based company. Apart from that I am also an animal activist, former member of PETA INDIA as well.
LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?
Shalvi: I switch to RAIN SOUND music. It actually helps a lot to get back the concentration and plot.
LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.
Shalvi: Yes, currently I am writing my fourth book.
My next book is completely based on the bond that a daughter shares with her mother. It even includes some the incidents where it is shown that how some children simply forget the sacrifices of their parents when it comes to their own happiness. I have dedicated my this book to my mother.
