About Kaustav Mukherjee
Kaustav Mukherjee holds a PhD in Management and master’s degrees in both Science and Management subjects. He presently works in a Public Sector Undertaking in India as a Marketing Manager. Kaustav is also a keen researcher and an academic writer having published in several top management journals. He is a passionate reader of books belonging to a wide spectrum of genres, mostly sci-fi, thrillers, fantasy and mythology.
LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content?
Kaustav Mukherjee: Writing had always been my passion. However, was not getting the right time and moment to embark on this journey, until two years back. Earlier, I had experiences in academic writing and publishing research papers in academic journals, however, my maiden attempt at literary writing is with my latest sci-fi thriller novel entitled – The Sinister Me.
The Sinister Me, is a sci-fi thriller novel which has been loved by several sci fi aficionados. The book keeps featuring in Amazon’s Hot New Release section under Science Fiction category. I am grateful for all the love and support shown by its readers.
LiFT: Why you chose this title?
Kaustav Mukherjee: The title is in line with the central theme and the storyline of the book, which gets unravelled as the reader runs through the pages of the book!
LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer and what’s your inspiration behind it?
Kaustav Mukherjee: As already mentioned, I had always wanted to be an author and more so in the science fiction and thriller genre. Having been an avid reader of books belonging to various genres, viz., sci-fi, fantasy, thriller, adventure, since my school days, the urge to author books had germinated in my heart since long.
LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?
Kaustav Mukherjee: I would love to delve more into the world of literary writing and intend to author several other books for readers in the sci-fi, thriller and fantasy genres.
LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?
Kaustav Mukherjee: Both quality and marketing are crucial to a book’s success, but they serve different purposes. Quality is the foundation; it’s what keeps readers engaged and turns them into loyal fans who spread the word organically. Marketing, on the other hand, is essential for visibility—it’s what brings the book to readers’ attention in a crowded market. A well-written book with strong marketing can reach and resonate with a wider audience.
LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?
Kaustav Mukherjee: Being an author in the sci-fi, thriller and fantasy genre, through my writing, I aim to explore the power of curiosity, and the endless boundaries of knowledge. I try to express the power of imagination and creative writing while still touching upon the established theories of science. Whether it’s blending ancient wisdom with modern science or diving into the psyche of complex characters, my work seeks to inspire reflection on the hidden connections that bind us all.
LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?
Kaustav Mukherjee: These days in my free time, apart from writing, I am devoted mostly into reading books of my choice and creating motivational contents in the social media platforms.
LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?
Kaustav Mukherjee: When I hit writer’s block, I take a step back and engage in activities that refresh my perspective. Reading books in and outside my genre and watching a well-crafted film help me find my inspiration back.
LiFT: What if your story will be adopted as a movie? Whom would you want to work as a director or actors in it?
Kaustav Mukherjee: If my story were adapted into a movie, I’d love to see visionary sci-fi film directors taking up the job because, I believe directors having rich experience in such genres would be able to do justice with works related to the film adaptation of books belonging to the sci-fi genre.
LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.
Kaustav Mukherjee: Yes, I’m currently working on my next book, a sci-fi thriller that fuses eastern mysticism with cutting-edge science. Readers can expect complex science, thrilling twists, and a deep exploration of how science and spirituality collide in unexpected ways.
LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?
Kaustav Mukherjee: For budding writers and poets, my advice is to write consistently. Read widely in various genres to broaden your perspective and gain insights into different styles. Have patience—writing is a craft that improves over time. Seek feedback but, trust your own voice.
