LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content.
Varun Rajasekaran: My book explores the overlooked spiritual dimension of our professional lives, introducing the intriguing concept of Spiritual Risk Management (SRM). Beyond the balance sheets, it also looks into the evolution of risk understanding through history. The core lies in addressing spiritual risks within organizations, unveiling the profound impact on individuals and the broader ecosystem.
My book’s uniqueness is its unexpected detour into the wisdom of Chanakya and Lord Krishna, weaving ancient teachings into modern leadership. ‘Corporate Karma’ is an invitation to revolutionize your approach and march on the path towards sustainable success.
LiFT: Why you chose this title?
Varun Rajasekaran: I was looking out for a captivating and catchy title that would reflect my books theme. And I felt that “Corporate Karma” would be an apt one that reflected the same.
LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer and what’s your inspiration behind it?
Varun Rajasekaran: It was my childhood dream to be an author. However, in 2018 , when American Society of Quality published my article on a hybrid Root Cause Analysis model, thats when I realised that I can try my hand at writing a book.
LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?
Varun Rajasekaran: I see myself as someone, who has established himself as a famous author, whose books have uplifted readers spiritually and emotionally.
LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?
Varun Rajasekaran: I believe a book’s quality and marketing are both very important to promote a book. Let’s look at the Hindi film industry as an example – one big hit film of the 90s , Andaz Apna Apna. When it released, the box office response was poor initially. However, as word of mouth spread about it, slowly the film became a hit and even now continues to be a classic. So, this example proves how both a good film and marketing through word of mouth played an important role. Similarly, it is with any book – both it’s quality and marketing are indispensable.
LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?
Varun Rajasekaran: My message is simple and clear – do not live life like a machine. Look within yourself, love and align yourself – your thoughts, emotions and action with universe and see the magic that happens in your life.
LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?
Varun Rajasekaran: Apart from writing, I work as an auditor with one of India’s top IT service providers. Also, I publish posts on LinkedIn regarding cybersecurity and IT risk management.
LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?
Varun Rajasekaran: I resort to walking amidst nature, listening to hindi songs and sometimes take a short nap.
LiFT: What if your story will be adopted as a movie? Whom would you want to work as a director or actors in it?
Varun Rajasekaran: I would love to work with Sanjay Leela Bhansali or Mani Ratnam as directors and Ayushman Khurrana, Rajkumar Rao, Sunil Grover, Mrunal Thakur, Kiara Advani, Nithya Menon and Prachi Desai as actors.
LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.
Varun Rajasekaran: I have not yet thought about my next book.
LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?
Varun Rajasekaran: Firstly, find out about the writing process – it’s not rocket science. Secondly, start writing – don’t worry about the output. Thirdly, read books with themes similar to one you are planning to write.
