LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content.
Baishali: The idea of ‘Escape and Fly’ happened during the commencement of the lockdown. When people started challenging with Dalgona coffee and other creativities in social media, I thought of bringing a book to life. I literally wanted to write a book of poetry and I should thank the lockdown period that helped me in doing so.
LiFT: Why you chose this title?
Baishali: Well, the title ‘Escape and Fly’ was the second option I went with. I had two options, from which, based on the opinions of some of my close friends I decided to go with. Basically, the title of the book is as simple as it is—to feel free and find a place where you can have peace, where you can get a little time at the end of the day to feel, to recall, to remember how hard or how joyful the day was. To recall those people who matter to you, who bring smiles to your face. Escape and fly is a book of poetry, which for some reason or the other you will be able to relate with.
LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer/poet and what’s your inspiration behind it?
Baishali: I always wanted to be a writer. I have always dreamt of becoming one. Every time I read a good book, I wish to be more like the idea behind that book. I’ve published my first book ‘Down the lane of Memories’ with Damick Publications, and what I see as an inspiration, is the habit of reading.
LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?
Baishali: Ten years from now, in the world of literature, I would probably be improving myself with every published work. learning with the passing time. We don’t know what happens in the future but I guess, I will have the same kind of zeal I have now to write. Probably having a few more bundles of books to my name, attending literature festivals, and meeting more authors on the way.
LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?
Baishali: According to me, both marketing and the quality of a book are necessary to build a reader base, because if your marketing strategy is good, it will enhance the sales and if the content of the book is good, it will definitely attract readers and thus with good marketing, it will do wonders.
LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?
Baishali: Well, the message is- you will learn with time. you will learn what works and what doesn’t.
Write what you feel. Write for your own. Increase your vocabulary, read books, and don’t stick to one particular genre. Explore them.
Make mistakes, and learn from them because your mistakes make you grow.
LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?
Baishali: Apart from writing, I am working as a Faculty at Assam down town University. I am also a google certified digital marketer, so I dig in and help people in whatever way I can. I have a blog of my own which I have named ‘Tunes of Life’ where I review books I have read.
Apart from that, I am a normal human being continuing my existence trying to make it a meaningful one 🙂
LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?
Baishali: I guess everyone faces writer’s block some time or the other, and everyone’s way of resorting to it might be different.
some people like music, some get over with a cup of coffee, some binge-watches movies, there is a list that goes on I take breaks. Sometimes the breaks are literally too long. But it is better to start off with a fresh mind than struggling with words.
LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.
Baishali: I am halfway to my next work. Well, this has probably taken the longest time, but I hope when it comes out it will be well appreciated.
To be honest, every time I start writing something new, the happiness and the free flow of ideas make me whole.
Let me give you a hint—it is a story. I will let you more when I am done with the work!
LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?
Baishali: For improving writing skills, to my knowledge what I have learned over the years is that- you need to know the art of putting a sentence or a paragraph. You need to know how to frame a plot or a particular scene— if it is about a story.
In the same way, if it is about poetry—the most important thing is how you are framing it. If it has any sequence and more. So for all these things, you need to read a lot and utilize the knowledge before you start with writing.
