LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it, and its content.

Dr. Monica Bhatia: Grace Unspoken is a personal and reflective book that explores the essence of grace through the life and journey of a woman named ‘Grace’. The book explores into themes such as humility, kindness, forgiveness, balance, and purpose. Writing it was both a spiritual and emotional journey for me—it allowed me to connect with universal human experiences while also weaving in subtle reflections from my own encounters and observations. Each chapter captures a different dimension of grace, from work-life balance to the art of forgiveness, making the book not just a narrative but a guide to leading a fulfilling life.

LiFT: Why did you choose this title?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: The title Grace Unspoken symbolizes the silent yet powerful quality of grace that often goes unnoticed in our fast-paced lives. Grace is not always loud or visible—it is often expressed in quiet strength, compassion, humility, and resilience. The title reflects the invisible threads that hold together relationships, character, and life’s deeper meaning.

LiFT: When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer, and what was your inspiration behind it?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: I realized my inclination toward writing during my academic years, when I found myself constantly reflecting and journaling my thoughts. My inspiration came from observing the strength of women around me—their ability to endure, nurture, and lead with compassion. Over time, I felt a strong urge to put these observations into words, not just for myself but for others who could find courage and inspiration through them.

LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: Ten years from now, I envision myself as an established voice in contemporary literature, particularly in works that inspire, heal, and empower readers. I hope to have authored several books that blend storytelling with philosophy, while also mentoring young writers and creating platforms for meaningful literary discussions.

LiFT: How important do you think marketing and the quality of a book are in promoting it and increasing its readership?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: Both marketing and quality are equally important. A book must first carry depth, clarity, and originality to truly resonate with readers. But even the most powerful story needs effective marketing to reach the right audience. Quality ensures longevity of readership, while marketing ensures visibility—together, they define the success of a book.

LiFT: What message do you want to convey to people through your writing?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: Through Grace Unspoken, I want to remind people that grace is not just a word—it is a way of living. It is about embracing kindness, forgiving oneself and others, balancing ambition with compassion, and finding strength in humility. My message is simple yet strong: life becomes more meaningful when lived gracefully.

LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: Apart from writing, I am engaged in academia and research. I dedicate much of my time to teaching, mentoring students, and contributing to research in the field of management. These roles complement my writing, as they keep me grounded in real-world challenges and inspire me to think more deeply about human behavior.

LiFT: What activities do you resort to when you face writer’s block?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: When I face writer’s block, I turn to reading, traveling, and spending time in nature. Conversations with students, peers, and family often spark new ideas. Introspection and journaling also help me reconnect with clarity and creativity.

LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If so, could you tell us something about it?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: My next project explores the themes of leadership and decision-making in the era of exponential technologies. It blends human-centered reflections with contemporary challenges in the context of professional and organizational life.

LiFT: What are your suggestions for budding writers and poets to help them improve their writing skills?

Dr. Monica Bhatia: My advice to budding writers is to stay authentic to their voice. Write regularly, even if it is just a paragraph a day, and read widely across genres to enrich your perspective. Do not fear criticism—it is an essential part of growth. Most importantly, write with sincerity and patience, because true writing emerges not from haste, but from reflection.
