LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content?

Debjyoti Das: The Holy Convergence And Other Poems is a poem book in which the converging ideas and and cultures have been depicted through poetic perspective. It’s a long and great yet a satisfying journey through various socio-cultural aspects of the world. So, I really enjoyed writing the book blending the myth and reality of the human civilizations of the world.

LiFT: Why you chose this title?

Debjyoti Das: As I said, the theme of my poems is to find the similarities and the converging ideas among different cultures of the world that binds us together, so I think the title my book is apt.

LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer and what’s your inspiration behind it?

Debjyoti Das: From my very early age, in fact when I was a high school student, I felt the urge of expressing my feelings, emotions and ideas through my writings. Never thought then specifically to be a writer or poet but I wanted to write and started my writing journey from then. Whenever I read any book, either a poem book or a novel, I feel mesmerized the way the ideas are expressed through words and it works as an inspiration to me.

LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?

Debjyoti Das: Already, I have almost completed five years as a full time published writer acquiring a lot of experiences in this field and still eager to explore more pursuing my literary journey, so I hope to see myself as a good writer or poet, ten years down the line in the world of literature as you asked.

LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?

Debjyoti Das: Marketing and quality of a book, both are extremely necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers. I think your organization, LIFT is doing a commanding job in this field by promoting the authors and their books by awarding them for their excellent works and working as a medium to introduce them to the readers worldwide through your social network. I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to LIFT for this by extending their cooperation to promote me and my works.

LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?

Debjyoti Das: The message in my writings is very clear. Love, peace, cooperation, equality are the themes of my writings. Hope my readers will understand this easily. In today’s selfish materialistic world, these qualities hold great importance to every individual.

LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?

Debjyoti Das: Teaching is my profession apart from writing. I teach English language and literature and yes, my students love to read my writings and some of them get inspiration also and try their hands in writing.

LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?

Debjyoti Das: Obviously, I face a writer’s block but not for long as I resort to reading, listening to music and I have a tendency to observe people and their act in details, so I bounce back to my writing quickly. Even I note down a nice rhythmic line or a phrase that comes in my mind while working in my house or outside.

LiFT: What if your story will be adopted as a movie? Whom would you want to work as a director or actors in it?

Debjyoti Das: That’s a very nice question to answer and a very positive imagination for me. Still it would be great if such things take place. I haven’t thought about directors or actors but I prefer renowned actors and director definitely.

LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.

Debjyoti Das: Yes, I’m working for my next book but as I have intended to write a book in my mother tongue, that is Bengali, so I want to take more time to make it more acceptable to my home readers who are known as quality readers as you know Bengal holds a long and great history in the field of literature.

LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?

Debjyoti Das: I would suggest to be very keen in observation, and always hear your soul or intuition says, express it in words. Never think what other will say or criticize about your work. Take criticism in a positive note and pursue your work. It’s it.
