LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it, and its content.
Aparna P: My novel Bangalore to Kochi: The Secret on the Wheels is a mystery thriller set against a night bus journey. The story unfolds through suspense, emotions, and hidden secrets of the passengers. The journey of writing it began with my fascination for bus travel and the stories one could imagine behind each traveler. Over time, those ideas grew into a full novel, blending thrill with human emotions.
LiFT: Why did you choose this title?
Aparna P: I wanted the title to reflect both the journey and the mystery. The Bangalore–Kochi route is familiar to many, but the phrase The Secret on the Wheels adds a layer of intrigue, inviting readers to uncover what lies hidden on this seemingly ordinary trip.”
LiFT: When did you realize that you wanted to be a writer, and what was your inspiration behind it?
Aparna P: I realized my love for storytelling during my college days. Writing gave me an outlet to explore emotions, unanswered questions, and hidden stories. The inspiration came from real-life travels and the people I’ve met along the way.
LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?
Aparna P: I see myself as an established author with multiple books across genres. I hope to build a connection with readers who trust my stories for both entertainment and emotional depth.”
LiFT: How important do you think marketing and the quality of a book are in promoting it and increasing its readership?
Aparna P: Both are equally important. A good book builds loyal readers, but marketing ensures it reaches them in the first place. Quality writing sustains the readership, while smart promotion introduces the book to new audiences.
LiFT: What message do you want to convey to people through your writing?
Aparna P: My stories remind readers that behind every person lies a hidden story. Life is layered with mysteries, emotions, and connections, and through my writing, I aim to make readers reflect on them.
LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?
Aparna P: I work in the IT field, and outside of that I enjoy reading, traveling, and practicing Carnatic music. These experiences fuel my creativity and help me bring authenticity to my stories.
LiFT: What activities do you resort to when you face writer’s block?
Aparna P: I take a pause and step away from the page. Music, travel, and observing everyday life help me reconnect with creativity. Sometimes even a simple walk or conversation sparks a fresh idea.
LiFT: What if your story were to be adapted into a movie? Who would you want to work as the director or actors in it?
Aparna P: My story would fit well as a suspense thriller movie. I’d imagine a director like Anjali Menon or Jeethu Joseph, who excel in weaving human emotions with suspense. For the cast, versatile actors who can portray depth—perhaps Fahadh Faasil, Parvathy Thiruvothu, or Dulquer Salmaan.”
LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If so, could you tell us something about it?
Aparna P: Yes I have started working on my next project, it is a science fiction.
LiFT: What are your suggestions for budding writers and poets to help them improve their writing skills?
Aparna P: Read widely and write consistently. Don’t wait for perfection in the first draft—just write and let the editing sharpen your story. Also, observe people, places, and conversations around you; inspiration often hides in the ordinary.”
