LiFT: Tell us about your book, the journey of writing it and its content.

Spondon: Title: Do Not Leave Me
Subtitle: A saga of love amidst nature. (A Different Love Story from Thailand)
A story that will take you from the high rises of Bangkok to the paddy fields in Kalasin and you will find yourself amidst nature with beautiful waterfalls, monasteries and ancient pagodas.

In a world full of selfish dispositions, it is indeed a difficult proposition to come across who can shower unconditional love and camaraderie. This is an aspect that has been aptly portrayed in this story that is based amongst the pristine backdrop of Thailand. The characterizations, imagery and the turn of events have been expertly aligned to bring out the various unknown factors amongst known territories. The vices of humans know no boundaries and the yearning for wealth often propels people to take up dark and nefarious means which create unsavory circumstances within a peaceful ecosystem. The desire to acquire wealth through unethical means has been causing myriads of misery for mankind. In this book too this unhealthy demeanor has been depicted quite vividly.

Another aspect that stands out beautifully in this story is the verity of human relationships. In a selfish and uncaring world, it is indeed rare to discover people with the chaste intent to help others, unconditionally. The world thrives on empathy, compassion and co-operation. Wealth has always been wrongly proclaimed to be the parameter for measuring success. The real measure of attainment is however, the acquisition of honest and pure relationships. This story is bears a strong evidence to this statement.

The story goes like this –
Pavel is a 19-year-old spoiled brat busy with his multi-millionaire lifestyle. Booze, bars and girls are his preferred pastime. But such a reckless lifestyle comes with a price. A gang of thieves assault him and take him far away from his home in Bangkok, Thailand. When Pavel returns to consciousness, he no longer remembers who he is.

Noi is a hardworking young man aged 23 who comes upon Pavel by a twist of fate. He invites the amnesiac Pavel to his home. Pavel and Noi grow close together. In the meantime, the thieves are still searching for their booty aka Pavel. Will they finally find Pavel? Elsewhere, Pavel’s father is also searching for his missing son. Will he be able to locate his son before the thieves make good their threat? And what will happen to the budding love between Pavel and Noi?

LiFT: Why you chose this title?

Spondon: I never visited Thailand but heard about its beautiful sea beaches, scenic beauty, people from my friends who travelled to Bangkok or worked there in Thailand. Another point is that I have been fond of Thai and Korean TV series since 2018, including the Boys’ Love (BL) series.
So, when I started working on my third fiction, I decided to place my story there in Thailand, which would be on a Boys’ love story.
Initially, the title of my story was ‘Do not go away from me’, which I later changed to ‘Do not leave me’ where the whole story revolves around two main characters – Pavel (an Indian boy) and Noi (a Thai man).
The story tells the unspoken urge of Noi to his love and soul mate Pavel not to leave him though he very well knew that one day Pavel will leave him forever and they may not meet again in their life. Though one part of the story resembles a famous Hindi film ‘Sadma’, there was a big difference and the main message through the story is the love, care, and affection that binds two people in a relationship. Through this story, I tried to showcase the variety of human relationships and focus on the emotional quotient that binds humanity together.

LiFT: When did you realize that you want to be a writer and what’s your inspiration behind it?

Spondon: In 2019, my first small step into the world of literature was my first poetry book – ‘Forgotten Love Unforgotten Love’. It is a collection of 22 poems on love, devotion and friendship. It was January 2019 when I wrote my first poem, and by May 2019, all the 22 poems I discovered within me took the form of black strokes that we call words.
After that, I wrote a few stories and two novels, one in English and another in Bengali and in that series, this book is my 3rd novel and 1st BL story.
My inspiration is my daughter who came to this world on 10th December 2018.

LiFT: Where do you see yourself ten years down the line in the world of literature?

Spondon: I would like to see myself as a well known author in the genre I prefer to write. Though I try to write in all categories which include poetry from in love, devotion, friendship, in protest and abstract thoughts, short stories and novels on life but I have a separate feeling and love for stories on Gay relationship and Transgender people, their emotions, struggle, pain and happiness and above all the behaviour of the society towards them. I would like to be known as a writer for them and their stories.

LiFT: How much do you think marketing or quality of a book is necessary to promote a particular book and increase its readers?

Spondon: For a new comer as an author, it is very important to get more readers and specially the readers for the genre he/she writes so that people come to know about him/her. For that marketing of new book is obviously needed and if the book is really good and well appreciated by the readers, it would give a great leap in the journey of authorship.

LiFT: What is the message you want to spread among folks with your writings?

Spondon: Life is beautiful even if you get too many hurdles. So, don’t stop yourself at one failure.

LiFT: What do you do apart from writing?

Spondon: I am M.Sc. Computer Science and MCA and an educator teaching ICT in a reputed CISCE school and am in this profession since 2000. Apart from these two, I am artist and draw for my happiness.

LiFT: What are the activities you resort to when you face a writer’s block?

Spondon: I read books, and watch good movies and series too. Frankly speaking I didn’t reached to that stage yet as I have so many plots and stories to write. the only thing I am lacking is managing time out for them.

LiFT: What if your story will be adopted as a movie? Whom would you want to work as a director or actors in it?

Spondon: My favorite director were two legendary people, first is Late Satyajit Ray and second Late Rituparno Ghosh.
For my novels, I did not thought of any one, but I would love to write one novel where I would dream to have Ji Chang Wook (Korean artist) as actor in that.

LiFT: Are you working on your next book? If yes, please tell us something about it.

Spondon: No, but I have a plan to write a sequel of this book as few questions are left unanswered in this story that need to be fetched out.

LiFT: What are your suggestions to the budding writers/poets so that they could improve their writing skills?

Spondon: Everyone can write something the only thing is you need to give a proper direction and have a good imagination to be a good fiction writer. as the saying, you can go from A to Z by logic but imagination can take you anywhere.
